NETFLIX MEDIA CENTER
During my tenure at Brooklyn United, I was selected as Lead UX Researcher and Strategist for the development of the Netflix Media Center's redesign. The press site is a globally accessed outlet for publishers and journalists to find resources and news regarding the company's latest offerings.
Because each member of the press receives varied permissions and usage cases, there needed to be myriad designs displaying error states, hidden fields, and global support cues across the website. Working closely with the design team, we developed hundreds of permutations for each journalist's specific type of permissions. These specific designs vary throughout the Company Blog, Tech Blog, within Press Releases, and across the Asset Library.
One of the most important requirements for Netflix's new media site was the ability to serve content to a global community within a single website. The Asset Library is able to serve content in multiple languages, including ones that are written right to left such as Arabic. At launch we included support for 8-13 distinct languages. The multilingual support needed on a responsive website required strategic design thinking beyond simply mirroring a semitic languages' design to match that of English. I liaised with several language translation companies in order to provide the best recommendation to Netflix regarding the ongoing support of UI string translation and real-time content translation. Additionally, backed by the multi-language support of the back-end, the Asset Library is able to deliver region specific front-end content based on the authenticated users region information.
Netflix requested a way to filter through media assets on a title basis, via category types, or by user generated search terms, in order to find and seamlessly engage with company content. Although the majority of the end product is locked away behind an authorization wall for qualified members of the press, much of my team's thinking is visible to the public.
